Yesterday was a memorable and meaningful day as lecturers and students from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia collaborated with Indonesia Banking School (IBS) for an international community service project that took place at Kisuci (Komunitas Iklim Sungai Cikeas), Bogor, West Java. The event was a perfect blend of fun, education, and environmental action, leaving participants with new knowledge and lasting connections and also this news are a recap for day two!

The day kicked off with an enthusiastic welcome from IBS, where participants exchanged ideas and plans for the collaboration. Both UiTM and IBS are known for fostering international cooperation, and this initiative proved their commitment to making a global impact.

The main highlight of the day was the trip to Kisuci, a vibrant community dedicated to climate action and river conservation. Participants eagerly rolled up their sleeves  for plant trees, together doing forest therapy which is an eco-healing activity that promotes well-being through immersive experiences in nature, particularly within the serene forest areas near the Cikeas River. Rooted in the Japanese practice of “Shinrin-Yoku” (forest bathing), forest therapy involves slow, mindful walks through the forest, where participants engage their senses to connect with the natural environment. At Kisuci, forest therapy offers visitors a chance to relax, reduce stress, and rejuvenate mentally and physically. Participants typically engage in activities like breathing exercises, guided meditations, and silent observation of nature, all aimed at fostering a deep sense of calm and improving overall health and also last but not least is knowing plants, their biodiversity. The teamwork and laughter throughout the day were contagious, making the service project not just impactful but also enjoyable.

Lecturers from both institutions emphasized the importance of real-world learning and building awareness of environmental issues, especially in today’s climate-sensitive world. For many students, this was their first international community service experience, and they couldn’t have asked for a better day. The day wrapped up with a reflection session, where both groups shared their insights, newfound knowledge, and ideas for future collaborations. The event not only strengthened the bond between UiTM and IBS but also inspired all participants to continue making a difference in their communities.

Filled with laughter, learning, and a shared sense of purpose, this international community service project proved that when people from different nations come together for a good cause, incredible things can happen!
